What Should I Include in a Technical Enquiry?
Tell us what you are trying to replace, install or improve. The following information helps us understand your equipment and narrow down the available options:
- Product identification: The manufacturer, full model or part number, and a link to any product you are considering.
- Your equipment or project: What the component connects to, how it is used and what you need the replacement or new product to do.
- Photographs and measurements: Clear pictures of the complete item, identification label and connections, with relevant measurements and units.
- Your question: Explain the point you need help with, such as compatibility, sizing, product selection or finding a manual. For something already purchased from Marine Scene, include your order number.
Send photographs by email so that the details can be viewed alongside your enquiry. Only photograph or measure equipment where it is safe to do so; do not dismantle a safety-critical system just to identify a part.
Boat Steering, Engine Controls and Cable Advice
Contact us for help with product-selection enquiries about mechanical and hydraulic steering, steering wheels, engine controls and replacement cables.
For a steering or control-cable enquiry, include the existing helm, control unit and cable model numbers where available. Tell us the engine make, model and power where relevant, and send photographs of the cable ends and connections.
If you need help choosing a cable length, explain whether you are replacing an existing cable or planning a new installation. Provide any readable cable markings and describe how you have taken your measurements rather than sending a length without context.
For steering-wheel selection, you can also read our Ultraflex and Multiflex steering-wheel buying guide.
Marine Pumps, Toilets and Water-System Advice
We can help with product enquiries about bilge pumps, freshwater pressure pumps, marine toilets and associated replacement parts.
Include the complete model or part number and explain the intended use. For an electric pump, provide the supply voltage, hose or port sizes and any pressure information shown on the existing product label.
For toilet spares, send photographs of the toilet and pump assembly, together with any model details. Describe the component you need rather than relying only on the appearance of the bowl or handle.
Boat Paint, Antifouling and Maintenance Advice
Contact us for help comparing fillers, primers, topcoats, antifouling and other boat-maintenance products.
Tell us the surface material, its condition, the existing coating if known, and whether the area is above or below the waterline. For antifouling enquiries, include the type of water in which the boat is kept and how it is normally used.
If you need help estimating quantities, provide the area to be coated and the product or coating system you are considering. Photographs can help explain the condition of the surface, but may not identify an unknown existing coating.
Our Antifouling Paint Buyer's Guide provides a starting point for comparing options. Follow the applicable manufacturer's preparation, application and safety instructions.
Where Can I Find Product Manuals and Data Sheets?
Visit our Manuals & Downloads page for available product manuals, technical data sheets, colour charts and safety data sheets.
Match the document to the full product model, voltage and version where applicable. If the document you need is not listed, email us with the product details so we can help you find the appropriate information.
You can also browse our boating and maintenance guides for product-selection and seasonal-maintenance topics.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I ask for product advice before placing an order?
Yes. Send us the product you are considering and details of your equipment or project. You do not need an order number for a pre-purchase enquiry.
Can you identify a replacement part from a photograph?
A clear photograph is a useful starting point, particularly when it shows the identification label and connections. We may also need measurements or model details before identifying a suitable replacement. Appearance alone does not confirm compatibility.
Can you help source a part that is not listed on the website?
Send us the manufacturer and full part number, or as much identifying information as you have. We can check whether the item or a suitable alternative is available through our suppliers. Availability and compatibility need to be confirmed before ordering.
Does product advice replace an installation inspection?
No. Advice based on an email or telephone conversation is not a physical inspection of your boat or equipment. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and use a suitably competent marine professional where the work requires specialist knowledge or safety checks.
Need Help with an Item You Have Already Purchased?
For product-use or specification questions, email sales@marinescene.co.uk with your order number and the item concerned.
If an item is faulty, damaged or incorrectly supplied, contact returns@marinescene.co.uk and read our Returns & Refunds page. Please describe the issue and include photographs where practical.
