Cancellation policy

Last updated: 08/10/2026

This policy explains cancellation rights for ordinary one-off purchases of goods from Marine Scene. The statutory distance-selling rights described below apply to UK consumers buying online or by telephone, subject to the applicable legal exceptions.

These rights are separate from our additional 30-day returns offer and from your rights where goods are faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied or not as described.

How Do I Cancel an Order?

Email returns@marinescene.co.uk, call 01656 671822, or write to us at the address below. Clearly state that you wish to cancel and identify the order or goods concerned.

Your order number, name and contact details help us locate the purchase. You do not have to give a reason for exercising an applicable statutory cancellation right.

You can use the model cancellation form below, but it is optional. A clear statement of your decision is sufficient; you do not need our approval or a returns authorisation number to cancel.

Keep a copy or other evidence of your cancellation. A cancellation sent within the applicable period is not made late simply because our team reads it afterwards.

Can I Cancel Before Dispatch?

Contact us as soon as possible so we can try to stop processing or dispatch. We may already be preparing the order or it may have been handed to the carrier.

If dispatch cannot be stopped, this does not remove an applicable statutory cancellation right. We will explain the return arrangements.

Requesting a change of size, model or delivery address is not necessarily the same as cancelling. Please state clearly what you want us to do.

What Is the Statutory Cancellation Period?

For most goods bought online or by telephone, you may cancel from the time the contract is made until the end of 14 days after the day you or your nominated recipient receives the goods.

Where one order contains multiple goods delivered separately, the period normally ends 14 days after the day the final goods are received. A similar rule applies to goods delivered in several lots or pieces.

For a purchase concluded online and collected in store, the relevant receipt date is normally the collection date. A reservation that is only purchased in store may be treated differently.

When Must I Return the Goods?

Unless we have offered to collect them, send the goods back or hand them over without undue delay and within 14 days after the day you tell us you are cancelling.

Pack the goods securely and include enough information to identify your order. Keep proof of posting or handover.

Return address:

Returns Department
Marine Scene Limited
Unit 5, South Cornelly Trading Estate
Porthcawl Road
Bridgend
CF33 4RE
United Kingdom

Contact us before arranging transport for flares, liferafts or other products with specialist carriage requirements. Do not send dangerous goods through an unsuitable postal or courier service. Requesting transport instructions does not replace your cancellation notice or make cancellation dependent on our approval.

Who Pays the Return Costs?

For a statutory change-of-mind cancellation, you pay the direct cost of returning goods where we informed you of that responsibility before purchase, unless we agree otherwise.

For goods that cannot normally be returned by post, the return cost or an appropriate estimate must be provided before purchase. Any agreed collection charge must also be explained.

If we failed to provide the required return-cost information, you will not be required to pay those costs where the law places them on us.

Different rules apply where goods are faulty or incorrectly supplied. We cover reasonable return costs where legally required; contact us for suitable arrangements.

What Condition Must the Goods Be In?

You may inspect goods as you reasonably would in a shop to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning. Opening ordinary packaging for that purpose does not automatically remove your cancellation rights.

Where handling beyond what is reasonably necessary reduces the goods' value, we may make a deduction for that reduction where the law permits and the required cancellation information was provided.

Please return supplied accessories, instructions and packaging where available. Original packaging is not an absolute condition of exercising statutory cancellation rights.

What Will Be Refunded?

For a valid statutory cancellation, we refund the amount due for the cancelled goods, subject only to deductions permitted by law.

If you cancel the whole eligible order, we also refund the standard outbound delivery charge. If you chose a more expensive service, we are only required to refund up to the cost of the least expensive standard delivery option offered.

We do not apply a cancellation, administration or restocking fee to the exercise of statutory cancellation rights.

Refunds are made using the original payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise. We do not require you to accept a gift card instead of a refund to which you are legally entitled.

When Will the Refund Be Made?

We refund without undue delay and within the applicable statutory deadline:

  • Where goods must be returned and we have not offered collection: Within 14 days after receiving the goods back or receiving evidence that you have sent them back, whichever is earlier.
  • Where no goods need to be returned, including an order stopped before dispatch: Within 14 days after we are informed of your cancellation.
  • Where we have offered to collect the goods: Within 14 days after we are informed of your cancellation.

Are Any Goods Excluded from Statutory Cancellation?

Legal exceptions can apply, including to goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised. Other exceptions can apply where genuinely relevant, such as goods inseparably mixed with other items after delivery, or sealed goods genuinely unsuitable for return for health-protection or hygiene reasons once unsealed.

We will identify relevant restrictions before purchase. Describing a standard product as a special order, obtaining it from a supplier, or selling it at a reduced price does not by itself remove statutory cancellation rights.

These exceptions do not remove your rights where goods are faulty, not as described or otherwise fail to meet applicable legal requirements.

What About Liferafts, Flares and Other Specialist Goods?

Liferafts and flares are excluded from our additional 30-day change-of-mind returns offer. That commercial exclusion does not remove an applicable statutory cancellation right.

Transport and handling restrictions must still be followed. Contact us promptly about the appropriate return arrangements.

How Does the Additional 30-Day Returns Offer Work?

Eligible unwanted goods returned under our additional offer must reach us within 30 calendar days of delivery and meet the conditions in our Returns & Refunds Policy.

Those additional conditions, including requirements concerning unused condition and packaging, do not replace or restrict statutory cancellation or faulty-goods rights.

What If the Item Is Faulty or Delivery Is Late?

Faulty-goods remedies and legal rights concerning late delivery are separate from change-of-mind cancellation. Do not assume your rights end when the 14-day cancellation period expires.

For faulty, damaged or incorrectly supplied goods, email returns@marinescene.co.uk. For delivery problems, email sales@marinescene.co.uk.
