I bought 4 x F6 fenders. They arrived and when I came to inflate them 3 were fine but the valve on the 4th had failed and would only hold air if the cap was fitted. The fault fender was returned to marine scene who agreed the valve was defective however they said if I fitted the cap that would solve the problem. I agree the cap should be fitted when the fender is in use, but the valve retains the air in the fender and the cap keeps the dirt out so the fender valve stays serviceable for future inflation if required. But a fender with a faulty valve is not acceptable and this fender was sold with a faulty valve period. I likened the purchase to buying a Musto BR1 jacket with a broken zip and relying on the Velcro to keep the weather out but no matter how much I tried to explain to marine scene that a fender with a faulty valve is not acceptable they just didn't get it. They even said they had contacted the manufacturer but I expect they only contacted their supplier. In the end marine scene refused to replace the faulty fender with a different fender with a working valve, they instead opted to refund my money.
Hi Colin,
Thank you for returning the fender and for outlining your concerns. We do need to clarify that the fender was not faulty. On inflatable fenders, the valve and the cap are designed to work together as a complete system. The cap is not a secondary feature; it is an integral part of the design that ensures the fender retains air and protects the valve for future use. For this reason, the fender was operating within the manufacturer’s specification.
The comparison to a jacket with a broken zip is not accurate. A broken zip renders a jacket unusable, whereas a fender that retains air with the cap fitted is performing exactly as intended. To ensure accuracy, we consulted the manufacturer directly, and they confirmed that the fender was serviceable.
Nevertheless, we respected your decision not to accept the product and provided a full refund. This was more than a fair resolution given the item was confirmed as functional.
We trust this clarifies why we did not consider the fender defective, and why a refund was issued rather than a replacement.
