It sits between the anode body and the mounting surface to protect the surface and provide a correctly shaped bedding layer; the pad itself is not a sacrificial anode.

What Is This Backing Pad Used For?

The pad follows the footprint of the 00271E-family bar anode and helps separate the casting from the hull coating or mounting surface while distributing contact pressure beneath the anode body.

The anode must still be electrically connected through its strap, studs or specified bonding arrangement. A rubber or neoprene pad does not create electrical continuity and should not be placed over a contact point that the installation design requires to remain bare metal.
