Description

Burgess Marine Woodsealer is a waterborne acrylic emulsion timber sealer designed for exterior wooden and plywood surfaces in marine environments. It contains UV-blocking inorganic pigments that help protect timber from sunlight-related degradation.

When applied to timber, Burgess Marine Woodsealer dries to form a microporous membrane. This seals the wood against environmental exposure while allowing the timber to breathe naturally. Unlike traditional varnish, it does not crack or craze.

This product can be used as a complete timber treatment, leaving a matt finish, or as a primer before overcoating with Burgess Marine Top Gloss or Burgess Marine Clearsealer.

What is Burgess Marine Woodsealer used for?

Burgess Marine Woodsealer is used to seal and protect exterior timber, plywood, decking, strakes, capping rails and other wooden marine surfaces. It is suitable for a variety of vessels, including smacks and clinker yachts.

Application Guidance

Ensure the timber is free from paint, varnish, wax, oil and grease before application. The surface may be damp but should be drying. Grey weathered wood does not need to be sanded before coating.

For new or newly sanded oily woods such as teak, allow the timber to weather before applying Burgess Marine Woodsealer. Apply by brush, spray or soft cloth. A minimum of two coats is recommended, although very porous timber may require additional coats.

Apply in air temperatures between 5°C and 30°C. Avoid application when relative humidity is above 80%, or when rain or heavy condensation is likely during drying. In confined spaces, provide adequate air movement to remove moisture released during drying.
