Description

Hempel’s Hard Racing 7668E is a high-performance hard antifouling for powerboats and regatta yachts made from glass fibre, wood, plywood or steel. It provides all-season fouling protection, high mechanical strength and a theoretical coverage of 13m² per litre. The white Hard Racing TecCel 7679A variant incorporates TecCel technology to reduce friction and increase speed.

Hempel’s Hard Racing 7668E is a high-performance hard antifouling developed to protect underwater hull surfaces from marine fouling throughout the boating season. Its hard coating provides high mechanical strength and crack resistance, making it suitable for powerboats, regatta yachts and vessels that are dry-sailed or mud-berthed.

The standard Hard Racing 7668E formulation is suitable for properly prepared glass fibre, wood, plywood and steel below the waterline. It must not be applied directly to aluminium or other light-alloy metals because electrical contact with the copper-containing antifouling can cause corrosion.

The white Hempel Hard Racing TecCel 7679A variant combines hard antifouling protection with TecCel technology, which is designed to reduce surface friction and increase speed. Unlike the standard 7668E colours, the white TecCel 7679A formulation can be applied to aluminium when the substrate is protected by a suitable epoxy system with a minimum total dry film thickness of 300 microns.

Apply by brush, roller or paint pad using Hempel’s Thinner 08080 when required, with thinning limited to a maximum of 5%. Apply two coats at the recommended 40-micron dry film thickness, followed by an additional coat around the waterline and on rudders, leading edges and other high-wear areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hempel’s Hard Racing 7668E used for?
It is used as a hard antifouling coating to protect the underwater hulls of powerboats, regatta yachts and other performance-focused vessels from marine fouling.

What surfaces can it be applied to?
The standard 7668E formulation is suitable for properly prepared glass fibre, also known as GRP, wood, plywood and steel.

What is the difference between Hard Racing 7668E and TecCel 7679A?
Hard Racing 7668E is the standard hard antifouling formulation. Hard Racing TecCel 7679A is the white variant and incorporates TecCel technology to reduce friction and increase speed.

Can Hempel Hard Racing be used on aluminium?
Standard Hard Racing 7668E must not be applied to aluminium or other light-alloy metals. White Hard Racing TecCel 7679A can be used on aluminium only when the substrate is protected by a suitable epoxy system with a minimum total dry film thickness of 300 microns.

Is it suitable for high-speed boats?
Yes. Hempel specifies both Hard Racing 7668E and Hard Racing TecCel 7679A for powerboats and regatta yachts.

Can it be used on mud-berthed boats?
Yes. Hempel specifically identifies the standard Hard Racing 7668E formulation as suitable for dry-sailed and mud-berthed boats.

How many coats should be applied?
Apply two coats at a dry film thickness of 40 microns per coat, followed by an additional coat around the waterline and on rudders, leading edges and other high-wear areas.

How much area does it cover?
The theoretical spreading rate is 13m² per litre at the recommended 40-micron dry film thickness.

Which thinner should be used?
Use Hempel’s Thinner 08080 when thinning is required, with a maximum thinning level of 5%. Hempel’s Thinner 808 is suitable for cleaning application tools.
