Description

Hempel’s Teak Colour Restorer 67462 is a pigmented teak oil for renewing new and previously treated teak. It gives the wood a golden-brown colour and contains anti-mould agents that help prevent discolouration.

Designed for interior and exterior teak above the waterline, Hempel’s Teak Colour Restorer penetrates the timber while adding colour. Unlike a clear teak oil, its pigmented formulation produces a defined golden-brown appearance after application.

The product can be applied directly using a brush, cloth or sponge. Hempel’s current Product Data Sheet also lists brush and roller application. Apply one saturation coat, allow the oil to absorb into the wood and remove any surplus with clean cloths. This helps prevent a glossy surface film and reduces the risk of softening adjacent sealant. Apply a second coat only where the wood has not become fully saturated.

  • Suitable for new teak
  • Suitable for previously treated teak
  • Suitable for interior teak surfaces
  • Suitable for exterior teak surfaces

  • Remove oil, grease and other contaminants using a suitable detergent cleaner.
  • For new wood, clean the surface with Hempel’s Teak Cleaner.
  • Sand rough areas where required.
  • Remove dust and loose material before application.
  • Ensure the moisture content of new wood is below 16%.
  • On previously treated wood, remove all dust and loose material.
  • Apply only to a clean, dry surface.
  • Ensure the surface temperature is at least 3°C above the dew point.
  • Keep relative humidity below 85% during drying and curing.
  • Stir thoroughly before use.
  • Apply directly using a brush, cloth or sponge. A roller may also be used.
  • Apply one saturation coat and allow the oil to absorb into the timber.
  • Remove surplus product with clean cloths before it dries into a glossy surface film.
  • Apply a second coat only if the wood is not fully saturated.
  • Do not add thinner to the product.
  • Use Hempel’s Thinner 808 08081 for cleaning application tools.
  • Allow approximately 16 hours to become touch dry at 10°C or eight hours at 20°C.

One coat is normally recommended. The spreading rate depends on the porosity and roughness of the timber and the selected application method.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hempel’s Teak Colour Restorer 67462 used for?
It is used to renew the colour of new or previously treated teak. Its pigmented oil formulation produces a golden-brown colour while anti-mould agents help prevent discolouration.

Is Hempel’s Teak Colour Restorer a clear teak oil?
No. It is a pigmented teak oil, so it adds a golden-brown colour rather than leaving the timber with a completely clear finish.

Can it be used on new teak?
Yes. New teak should first be cleaned with Hempel’s Teak Cleaner. Rough areas should be sanded, dust and loose material removed, and the wood moisture content must be below 16%.

Can it be used on previously treated teak?
Yes. Remove dust and loose material from previously treated wood before application.

Can it be used indoors and outdoors?
Yes. It is suitable for interior and exterior teak above the waterline.

Can it be used below the waterline?
Hempel specifies the product for above-waterline applications. It is not listed as a treatment for submerged or below-waterline wood.

How should Hempel’s Teak Colour Restorer be applied?
Apply it directly to clean, dry teak using a brush, cloth or sponge. A roller may also be used. Allow the oil to absorb and remove any surplus with clean cloths.

How many coats are required?
One saturation coat is normally recommended. Apply a second coat only if the wood has not become fully saturated.

Why must excess oil be wiped away?
Removing surplus product helps prevent a glossy film from forming and reduces the risk of softening adjacent sealant.

Can the product be thinned?
No. Do not use thinner in conjunction with this product. Hempel’s Thinner 808 08081 is specified for cleaning application equipment.

How long does it take to dry?
It is touch dry in approximately eight hours at 20°C or 16 hours at 10°C.

How much area does it cover?
Hempel does not specify a fixed spreading rate. Consumption depends on the roughness and porosity of the wood and the application method.
