Lofrans replacement gypsies are precision-machined chain wheels designed for specific vertical and horizontal windlass models. They are used to replace worn gypsies or to convert a compatible windlass to a different calibrated chain size or standard.

Each gypsy is matched to a specific windlass model and chain specification. Compatibility depends on three factors: windlass model, chain diameter, and chain calibration/standard (e.g. ISO 4565, DIN 766, G40, HT, BBB or PC). Chain diameter alone is not sufficient.
