Description

The Multiflex S2 / LM-S-2 Steering Cable Support Bracket is a dual-position mounting assembly for one compatible mechanical steering cable. It is used where the steering cable cannot pass through a suitable engine tilt tube or where a conventional flat splashwell mounting arrangement does not suit the boat’s transom and splashwell geometry.

The S2 uses a raised 90° support bracket with two alternative mounting locations and an approximately 277mm threaded support tube. This allows the installer to choose the cable-support position that provides the best alignment with the outboard engine tiller and steering link arm.

What Is the Multiflex S2 Used For?

The S2 supports the stationary outer section of a compatible mechanical steering cable near the outboard engine.

When the steering wheel is turned:

  1. The steering helm moves the inner steering cable.
  2. The S2 holds the cable’s outer support section in position.
  3. The cable output moves in a push-pull direction.
  4. A separately selected steering link arm transfers that movement to the outboard engine tiller.

The S2 can form part of a correctly specified:

  • Outboard mechanical steering installation
  • Transom-mounted steering cable arrangement
  • Splashwell-mounted steering installation
  • Installation without a usable engine tilt tube
  • Installation where a conventional flat splashwell flange is unsuitable
  • Replacement of a compatible raised steering cable bracket
  • Steering system requiring two alternative cable-support positions

  • Mounting nuts
  • Flat washers
  • Locking washers or retaining hardware

Check the physical package before publishing a guaranteed loose-fastener quantity.

Not included unless expressly stated:

  • Mechanical steering cable
  • Steering helm
  • Steering wheel
  • Dashboard bezel
  • Engine steering link arm
  • Engine tiller arm
  • Steering cable-to-engine connection kit
  • Hydraulic steering cylinder
  • Hydraulic hoses
  • Engine-specific adaptor
  • Additional transom reinforcement
  • Other installation-specific steering components

Does the S2 Hold Two Steering Cables?

No. The S2 supports one mechanical steering cable.

The bracket provides two alternative mounting locations. These allow the articulated support tube to be installed through either bracket face, depending on the required cable height, offset and approach angle.

The S2 should therefore be described as:

  • A dual-position steering cable support
  • A two-location transom support bracket
  • A raised 90° splashwell mounting bracket

How Do the Two Mounting Positions Work?

The S2 bracket has two perpendicular mounting faces.

The articulated tube and flange assembly can be positioned through the bracket face that provides the most suitable:

  • Cable height
  • Distance from the transom
  • Cable approach angle
  • Alignment with the engine tiller
  • Link-arm clearance
  • Splashwell clearance
  • Engine tilt clearance

Only one mounting location is used for the steering cable in a normal installation.

What Are the Published S2 Dimensions?

  • Support-tube length: 277mm / approximately 10.9in
  • Mounting-hole pattern: 64 x 64mm / approximately 2.52 x 2.52in
  • Number of mounting holes: 4
  • Mounting-hole diameter: 7mm / approximately 0.28in

These measurements are supplier-published rather than shown on the current Multiflex S2 product page.

The available Multiflex data do not state:

  • Support-tube outside diameter
  • Support-tube inside diameter
  • Tube thread diameter
  • Tube thread pitch
  • Bracket thickness
  • Exact cable offset at either mounting position
  • Maximum articulation angle
  • Maximum transom thickness
  • Product weight
  • Maximum steering force
  • Maximum engine horsepower

What Does the 12-16in Mounting Position Mean?

  • Mounting surface: Normally perpendicular to the transom
  • Distance from centreline or tiller: 12-16in / approximately 305-406mm
  • Total splashwell width: 25-33in / approximately 635-838mm

These measurements describe the manufacturer’s usual installation geometry. The final position must also provide correct cable alignment, full steering travel and unrestricted engine tilt movement.

How Is the S2 Different From the Multiflex S1?

Multiflex S1

  • Conventional plate-style splashwell mounting kit
  • Mounts through a splashwell side or bulkhead
  • Stainless-steel mounting plates
  • Aluminium support tube
  • Suitable where a flat through-bulkhead mounting surface is available

Multiflex S2

  • Raised 90° support bracket
  • Two alternative mounting locations
  • Supports the cable at different positions relative to the transom
  • Approximately 277mm threaded support tube
  • Suitable where through-tube steering or the normal splashwell arrangement is unsuitable

Is the S2 Equivalent to the Ultraflex S55?

Specialist supplier listings pair the Multiflex S2 with the Ultraflex S55 / 34744A.

The S2 should be treated as the closest functional equivalent rather than a guaranteed dimensional replacement.

Before substitution, compare:

  • Mounting-hole pattern
  • Fixing-hole diameter
  • Support-tube length
  • Support-tube thread
  • Cable retaining-nut thread
  • Bracket height
  • Cable offset
  • Link-arm position
  • Steering and tilt clearance

Which Steering Cables Are Compatible?

The current Multiflex S2 product data do not identify a specific steering cable model.

The selected mechanical steering cable must:

  • Pass through the S2 support tube
  • Attach securely to the threaded support tube
  • Move through its complete steering travel
  • Connect to the engine through a compatible link arm
  • Operate without excessive side loading
  • Maintain the cable manufacturer’s minimum bend radius

Confirm the cable make, model, retaining-nut thread, output-end design, travel, length and engine connection before ordering.

Does the S2 Replace an Engine Tilt Tube?

The S2 provides an alternative steering cable support where a suitable engine tilt tube is unavailable or cannot be used.

It anchors the steering cable to the boat’s transom or splashwell structure. A separate steering link arm then connects the moving cable output to the engine tiller.

Does the S2 Include a Steering Link Arm?

No steering link arm is identified as part of the S2 supply.

The correct link arm must be selected according to:

  • Engine manufacturer and model
  • Steering cable output end
  • Engine tiller mounting point
  • Required arm length and offset
  • Mounting-bolt diameter
  • Steering travel
  • Engine tilt clearance

Can the S2 Be Used with Hydraulic Steering?

No. The S2 is a mechanical steering cable support.

It is not a hydraulic steering cylinder mount, hydraulic hose bulkhead fitting, hydraulic tie bar or hydraulic engine bracket.

Is the S2 a Complete Steering System?

No. The Multiflex S2 is the steering cable support assembly only.

A complete mechanical steering installation may also require:

  • Steering wheel
  • Steering helm
  • Dashboard bezel
  • Correctly measured steering cable
  • S2 support bracket
  • Compatible engine steering link arm
  • Engine tiller connection
  • Engine-specific mounting hardware
  • Suitable transom or splashwell reinforcement
  • Correct steering and tilt clearance
