Description
Description
The Standard Horizon GX2410GPS/E Fixed Mount DSC VHF GPS Radio combines selectable 25W marine VHF transmission with Class D DSC, a 66-channel GPS receiver, dual-channel AIS reception and NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connectivity. It also supports wired or wireless second stations, waypoint and route navigation, CPA/TCPA alarms, a 30W loudhailer and programmable fog signals.
What is the Standard Horizon GX2410GPS/E used for?
The GX2410GPS/E is designed for permanent installation aboard sailing boats, motorboats, fishing vessels and commercial craft requiring fixed marine VHF communications, DSC distress signalling, AIS target monitoring and onboard navigation-data integration.
It provides selectable 25W or 1W transmission for communication with vessels, marinas, harbour authorities and coast stations. Its built-in GPS supplies position and time data to the DSC system, while NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connections allow compatible chartplotters, multifunction displays and navigation instruments to exchange GPS, DSC and AIS information with the radio.
Does the GX2410GPS/E transmit AIS information?
No. The GX2410GPS/E contains a dual-channel AIS receiver, not an AIS transponder.
It receives AIS transmissions on both international AIS frequencies and displays compatible vessel and AIS-SART information, including:
- MMSI number
- Call sign
- Vessel name
- Bearing
- Distance
- Speed over ground
- Course over ground
The radio can show the vessel's position relative to nearby AIS targets, sound programmable CPA or TCPA warnings and initiate an individual DSC call to a selected AIS target. It does not broadcast the user vessel's own AIS position or identity.
AIS Collision-Awareness Functions
Programmable Closest Point of Approach and Time to Closest Point of Approach alarms help identify AIS-equipped vessels whose projected course may bring them too close.
The display can present target bearing, distance, speed and course together with the GX2410GPS/E's own GPS position. AIS-SART transmissions can also be received and displayed. CPA and TCPA information is an aid to situational awareness and does not replace a proper visual lookout, radar watch or compliance with collision regulations.
What Class D DSC functions does the GX2410GPS/E provide?
The current GX2410GPS documentation specifies ITU-R M.493-16 Class D Digital Selective Calling. A separate Channel 70 receiver continuously monitors DSC traffic while the main receiver is being used for voice communication.
Once a valid MMSI has been programmed, supported DSC functions include:
- Distress alerts with vessel identity and GPS position
- Individual calls
- Group calls
- All-ships calls
- Position requests
- Position reports
- DSC test calls
- Navigation to received DSC positions
- DSC call logging
- Group Monitor position calling
- Man overboard operation
The current technical specification provides storage for up to 100 individual DSC contacts, 30 DSC groups, 100 transmitted DSC calls, 50 distress calls and 100 received DSC calls.
Integrated 66-Channel GPS Receiver
The front-panel GPS receiver supplies position, time, speed over ground and course over ground without normally requiring an external GPS connection. The radio provides numerical GPS information, a compass page, GPS-status information and waypoint-navigation screens.
The receiver has 66 channels, sensitivity better than -147dBm and uses the WGS84 geodetic datum. Typical position-acquisition times are approximately one minute from a cold start and five seconds from a hot start under suitable reception conditions.
Waypoint, Route and MOB Navigation
The current GX2410GPS/E specification provides storage for up to 250 waypoints and 30 routes. Stored destinations can be selected from the directory and followed using the compass navigation screen.
Navigation information can include:
- Latitude and longitude
- Time
- Speed over ground
- Course over ground
- Bearing to destination
- Distance to destination
The MOB function records the current GPS position and starts navigation back towards that location. Received DSC positions can also be saved or used as navigation destinations.
Is the GX2410GPS/E compatible with NMEA 2000?
Yes. The GX2410GPS/E has an integrated NMEA 2000 interface with a Load Equivalency Number of 1. It supports applicable NMEA 2000 data for navigation, GPS, AIS and DSC functions, allowing the radio to exchange information with compatible chartplotters, multifunction displays and other marine-network equipment.
A compatible powered and correctly terminated NMEA 2000 network is required. The radio does not replace the backbone, terminators, power connection or drop cables required to install a complete NMEA 2000 network.
NMEA 0183 Input and Output
The radio also supports NMEA 0183 at 4800 baud and NMEA 0183-HS at 38400 baud.
At 4800 baud, supported GPS input sentences include:
- GGA
- GLL
- GNS
- RMC
- GSA
- GSV
Output sentences include DSC, DSE and supported GPS sentences. AIS VDM data is output at 38400 baud. When the NMEA 0183-HS setting is selected, GPS, DSC and AIS information can be transferred through the high-speed connection to compatible equipment.
Wired and Wireless Second-Station Operation
The GX2410GPS/E supports an optional SSM-70H RAM4 wired remote-access microphone, providing remote control of radio and DSC functions from another helm or operating position.
Wireless second-station operation is available with the optional SSM-72H RAM4X and SCU-30 wireless access point. Up to four compatible RAM4X units can be paired, with a stated operating range of up to 65 feet under suitable conditions. Actual range depends on the vessel structure, installation position and surrounding radio interference.
The intercom function supports communication between the main radio and an optional second station and, with a suitable wireless installation, between compatible remote stations. The RAM4, RAM4X and SCU-30 are optional and are not included with the radio.
Integrated 30W PA and Loudhailer
The GX2410GPS/E incorporates a 30W PA and loudhailer amplifier for use with a compatible external 4Ω hailer horn.
Supported functions include:
- Public-address announcements
- Listen-back operation
- Automatic fog signals
- Horn and siren functions
- Monitoring of the previously selected VHF channel while using PA or fog modes
A compatible loudhailer horn, such as a suitable Standard Horizon 220SW or 240SW, is required and is sold separately.
Display and Controls
The current model uses a high-resolution full-dot matrix LCD measuring approximately 66 × 36mm, with a resolution of 222 × 122 pixels. Selectable day and night display modes help maintain visibility in bright or low-light conditions, while the front-panel busy indicator gives a clear visual indication when the selected channel is active.
Standard Horizon's E2O Easy to Operate icon and menu system provides access to radio, DSC, GPS, AIS, waypoint, route and configuration functions. User-programmable soft keys can be assigned to frequently used controls, and the preset function stores up to 10 favourite channels for direct recall.
Scanning and Channel Monitoring
The GX2410GPS/E provides:
- Programmable memory scanning
- Priority scanning
- Dual Watch
- Triple Watch
- Preset recall for up to 10 channels
- Separate Channel 70 DSC monitoring
- Local receiver attenuation
The European model supports international and applicable regional marine channel groups together with ATIS operation for compatible European inland waterways. Channel availability, ATIS programming and permitted functions depend on national regulations and the radio's regional configuration.
Noise Cancellation and Voice Scrambler
Separate noise-cancelling processing can be applied to transmitted and received audio, helping improve intelligibility in wind, engine noise and other demanding onboard conditions.
The radio also contains compatible four-code and 32-code analogue voice scramblers. Dealer programming is required before the scrambler can be used on permitted channels. Both communicating radios must use a compatible scrambler mode and matching code.
The scrambler reduces the intelligibility of compatible analogue transmissions to casual listeners but does not provide cryptographic encryption or guaranteed confidential communication.
Transmit Power and Electrical Supply
The GX2410GPS/E provides two selectable transmit levels:
- 25W for normal long-range, line-of-sight marine VHF communication
- 1W for short-range communication and reduced interference
It operates from a nominal 13.8V DC negative-ground supply and accepts an operating range of 11–16.5V DC. Current consumption is approximately 0.55A in standby, 0.9A while receiving at maximum audio output, 5A when transmitting at 25W and 1A when transmitting at 1W.
Commercial-Grade Receiver
The voice receiver covers 156.050–163.275MHz and has a stated sensitivity of 0.30µV for 12dB SINAD. Typical spurious and image rejection is 80dB for voice reception and 75dB for DSC.
The separate AIS receiver monitors:
- AIS Channel A: 161.975MHz
- AIS Channel B: 162.025MHz
AIS sensitivity is stated as 0.5µV for 12dB SINAD.
Is the GX2410GPS/E waterproof?
Yes. The GX2410GPS platform is rated IPX8, equivalent to submersion in up to 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes under the manufacturer's test conditions.
The waterproof rating does not remove the need to seal cable entries, protect electrical connections and follow the specified installation procedure. The radio is backed by Standard Horizon's three-year waterproof warranty, subject to applicable regional terms and normal-use conditions.
Mounting and Installation
The radio measures approximately 180 × 80 × 152.6mm and weighs approximately 1.5kg. It can be installed using the supplied adjustable mounting bracket or flush-mounted using the optional MMB-84 flush-mount bracket.
The specified flush-mount space is approximately 161 × 65 × 157mm. The installation position should provide adequate clearance for the case, cables, microphone connection and GPS reception. An optional external GPS antenna may be used where the radio's internal antenna does not have a suitable view of the sky.
