Description
Description
The Standard Horizon HX210E Floating Handheld VHF Radio is a compact marine transceiver for European and international VHF channels. It combines selectable 6W, 2.5W and 1W transmit power with IPX7 submersibility, a water-activated strobe, a backlit dot-matrix display, an 1850mAh Li-Ion battery and built-in FM broadcast reception.
What is the Standard Horizon HX210E used for?
The HX210E is designed for marine voice communication between vessels, marinas, harbour authorities and shore stations on permitted VHF marine channels. Its portable, floating construction makes it suitable as the primary radio on a small craft or tender and as a backup VHF aboard a larger sailing or motor vessel.
A dedicated 16/S control provides rapid access to emergency Channel 16, while memory scanning, priority scanning and dual or triple watch functions help monitor important channels.
Does the HX210E float and is it waterproof?
Yes. The Standard Horizon HX210E is designed to float and is submersible to IPX7, equivalent to immersion in up to 1 metre of water for 30 minutes.
When the radio contacts water, its white strobe light can flash automatically to make the unit easier to locate in poor light. The water-hazard function can also be configured to illuminate the strobe and power on the transceiver if it enters the water while switched off.
The IPX7 protection applies when the microphone and speaker socket cap is correctly installed.
What transmit power does the HX210E provide?
The radio provides three selectable transmit settings:
- 6W for maximum permitted transmitting power
- 2.5W for medium-range communication
- 1W for short-range communication and reduced battery consumption
Some countries require the highest output to be restricted to 5W. Channel availability and permitted transmit power depend on the selected region and applicable national regulations.
Is the HX210E suitable for European marine channels?
Yes. The HX210E is the European version and supports European and international marine channel groups. It also supports ATIS mode for compatible European inland-waterway operation.
An ATIS identification number must be obtained from the relevant authority. The ATIS number can only be entered once by the user, so it must be checked carefully before programming.
Display and Controls
The high-resolution dot-matrix LCD uses a backlight for operation in daylight and low-light conditions. Standard Horizon's E2O Easy to Operate menu system provides access to radio settings, while the programmable function keys can be assigned to frequently used controls.
- Direct Channel 16 access
- Memory and priority scanning
- Dual-watch and triple-watch monitoring
- Programmable soft keys
- Adjustable display backlight and contrast
- Speaker microphone connection
- 600mW internal speaker output
- Battery-level display
- Transmit time-out timer
Battery and Receiver Functions
The HX210E has a built-in 7.4V, 1850mAh rechargeable Li-Ion battery. A fully discharged battery takes approximately three hours to charge when used with the specified Standard Horizon charging equipment.
The integrated FM broadcast receiver covers 65–108MHz in 100kHz steps. The radio also supports weather-channel reception where available within the selected regional channel group; weather-alert functions vary according to region.

Love this vhf - just what i needed. Loads of features, long battery life and can include an fm ststion in channel scan. Very clear screen, superb audio quality. Well designed and built, sturdy robust feel - i think I'll be uding this for many years to come.
The delivery was very fast, and the device well packaged. The radio is very clear and easy to use.
Delivery is snappy! Radio is well packaged and does exactly what it says on the box and also comes with a quick set up guide which is useful
This is the first handheld I have bought for myself. I have used others on different boats but I needed my own. I bought this model because although it is basic it has more features than its rivals in the same price bracket and better waterproofing than some.
I had some issues setting the squelch but after a bit of fiddling and using the Standard Horizon Youtube I got it sorted. I have been using it all week in a regatta and the battery life is good, it is clear and the volume is great on an open dayboat in some decent wind conditions.
Overall very happy.
