Description
Description
Tecnoseal 00101UK Series heavy-duty UK-pattern disc anodes provide sacrificial cathodic protection for compatible rudders, trim tabs and other electrically connected underwater metal components. The combined range includes three mounting geometries—00101UK Ø70mm, 00102UK 98mm × 82mm and 00105UK Ø148mm—with zinc, aluminium and magnesium versions of each size. Every anode incorporates a centre insert, while matching neoprene backing pads are available under separate Tecnoseal part numbers.
What Is This Disc Anode Used For?
The anode is mounted against a compatible rudder, trim tab or underwater metal component through its central fixing arrangement. When correctly installed with the required electrical continuity, the sacrificial alloy is consumed in preference to the connected underwater metalwork.
Some installations use one disc, while others use two matching discs on opposite faces of the protected component. Check the vessel's existing arrangement and equipment specification before ordering.

Available Sizes and Part Numbers
- 00101UK family: Circular Ø70mm profile, 33mm overall height, 30mm centre recess and 11mm fixing hole. Available as 00101UK zinc, 00101UKAL aluminium and 00101UKMG magnesium.
- 00102UK family: Non-circular 98mm × 82mm profile, 32mm overall height, 42mm centre recess and 14.5mm fixing hole. Available as 00102UK zinc, 00102UKAL aluminium and 00102UKMG magnesium.
- 00105UK family: Circular Ø148mm profile, 36mm overall height, 36mm centre recess and 14.5mm fixing hole. Available as 00105UK zinc, 00105UKAL aluminium and 00105UKMG magnesium.
Important: The 00102UK is not a conventional round disc. Its official outside profile measures 98mm × 82mm, so it must be matched by both length and width rather than by a single nominal diameter.
How Do I Select the Correct Size?
Match the replacement anode to the existing installation in the following order:
- Base part-number family: Identify whether the existing pattern is 00101UK, 00102UK or 00105UK.
- Outside profile: Confirm the diameter or complete length-and-width dimensions.
- Overall height: Check the available clearance and existing casting depth.
- Centre recess: Measure the diameter of the recessed mounting area.
- Fixing hole: Confirm the central fixing-hole diameter.
- Mounting arrangement: Check whether the installation uses one anode or a matching pair.
- Matching pad: Select the pad associated with the same base anode family where one is required.
Do not select the replacement from approximate diameter, weight or visual appearance alone. A similar-looking disc with a different centre recess or fixing hole may not seat securely or provide the intended electrical contact.
Which Anode Alloy Should I Choose?
- Zinc: A conventional selection for salt-water operation where zinc is specified for the vessel.
- Aluminium: Generally selected for salt or brackish water and lower in mass than an equivalent zinc casting.
- Magnesium: Generally selected for fresh-water operation and normally unsuitable for prolonged salt-water use because it may be consumed too quickly.
Use the alloy specified by the vessel, equipment or cathodic-protection-system manufacturer. Keep the alloy selection consistent with the vessel's other anodes unless a qualified marine-corrosion specialist specifies otherwise.
Water salinity, connected metals, shore-power arrangements, bonding condition and stray-current activity can affect the correct selection.
Matching Neoprene Pads
- GUA101UK: Matching pad for the 00101UK, 00101UKAL and 00101UKMG anode family; approximate pad weight 0.015kg.
- GUA102UK: Matching pad for the 00102UK, 00102UKAL and 00102UKMG anode family; approximate pad weight 0.050kg.
- GUA105UK: Matching pad for the 00105UK, 00105UKAL and 00105UKMG anode family; approximate pad weight 0.080kg.
The pad is selected by the base anode family rather than the alloy. For example, all three 00102UK alloy variants use the GUA102UK-pattern pad.
Supply note: Tecnoseal lists the pads under separate product codes. Do not assume that a pad, centre bolt, nut, washer or other mounting hardware is included unless the individual product offer expressly states this.
Installation and Maintenance
Remove the existing anode and inspect the mounting face, centre fixing and required electrical-contact surfaces. Remove corrosion products, loose paint, grease, sealant and debris from any area that must provide metal-to-metal continuity.
Fit the replacement with suitable serviceable hardware and follow the vessel or equipment manufacturer's tightening procedure. Where a neoprene pad is used, position it flat without folds or trapped debris and ensure that it does not interrupt an electrical-contact path required by the original installation.
Do not paint the sacrificial casting or its required contact surfaces. Inspect the anode during scheduled servicing and replace it when substantially consumed, cracked, damaged or loose. Unusually rapid or uneven consumption can indicate an incorrect alloy, poor electrical continuity, bonding faults or stray-current activity.
Alloy Standards and Manufacture
Tecnoseal manufactures zinc, aluminium and magnesium sacrificial anodes at its foundry in Grosseto, Tuscany. Tecnoseal states that alloy composition is checked through periodic spectrometric measurement against the applicable material specification:
- Zinc alloy: US Mil Spec A-18001K
- Aluminium alloy: US Mil Spec A24779 SH
- Magnesium alloy: US Mil Spec A21412 SH
Tecnoseal states that its anodes are designed and manufactured according to the chemical composition specified by the relevant US military standard.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the neoprene pad included with the anode? Tecnoseal lists GUA101UK, GUA102UK and GUA105UK as separate product codes. Check the selected offer rather than assuming the pad is included.
- Are the three anode sizes interchangeable? No. Their outside profiles, heights, centre recesses and fixing holes differ.
- Is 00102UK a round disc anode? No. Its official outside profile measures 98mm × 82mm.
- Do zinc, aluminium and magnesium versions of the same base model have matching dimensions? Yes. Variants within the same base family share the listed nominal geometry, but their weights differ because the alloys have different densities.
- Can I replace zinc with aluminium or magnesium? Only where the alternative alloy is suitable for the operating water and compatible with the vessel's complete cathodic-protection system.
- Can the anode be painted? No. Keep the sacrificial alloy and required electrical-contact surfaces free from paint, grease and insulating sealant.
- Does a matching outside diameter guarantee compatibility? No. Confirm the height, centre recess, fixing-hole diameter and complete mounting arrangement.
- Should the anode be replaced as a pair? Where the installation uses opposed matching discs, inspect and normally renew both positions together using the same size and alloy.
