Description
Description
Tecnoseal 00271E, 00272E and 00273E UK-type bolt-on bar hull anodes provide sacrificial cathodic protection for yacht and superyacht hulls, transoms and electrically connected underwater metalwork. This combined range covers three mounting patterns, with every size available in zinc, aluminium and magnesium.
What Are These Bar Anodes Used For?
Each anode uses a long sacrificial casting with two slotted mounting points. When correctly connected to the vessel's cathodic-protection or bonding system, the anode is consumed in preference to protected underwater metals.
These anodes are suitable only where the body dimensions, fixing centres, mounting-slot dimensions and available installation clearance match the existing installation.

Available Sizes and Part Numbers
- 00271E family: 310mm × 75mm × 40mm body, 205mm fixing centres and 13mm × 25mm zinc slots or 12mm × 25mm aluminium and magnesium slots. Available as 00271E zinc, 00271EAL aluminium and 00271E/MG magnesium.
- 00272E family: 455mm × 94mm × 40mm body, 230mm fixing centres and 19mm × 30mm mounting slots. Available as 00272E zinc, 00272EAL aluminium and 00272EMG magnesium.
- 00273E family: 450mm × 105mm × 50mm body, 230mm fixing centres and 19mm × 30mm mounting slots. Available as 00273E zinc, 00273EAL aluminium and 00273EMG magnesium.
Important: The 00272E and 00273E patterns share 230mm fixing centres and 19mm × 30mm mounting slots, but they are not automatically interchangeable. Their body dimensions, casting height and anode mass are different.
Applications and Compatibility
Tecnoseal's current catalogue associates the 00271E and 00272E patterns with Fairline applications and the 00273E pattern with Sunseeker applications. These manufacturer references do not replace physical measurement and compatibility checks.
The 00271E pattern also has a comparable mounting pattern to the MG Duff ZD78. Confirm the complete dimensions, slot arrangement, alloy and installation requirements before treating it as a direct replacement.
How Do I Select the Correct Size?
Match the existing installation in the following order:
- Overall dimensions: Confirm the available length, width and height.
- Fixing centres: Measure between the centres of the two fixing points.
- Mounting slots: Confirm both the slot width and slot length.
- Installation clearance: Check that the full casting fits without contacting adjacent equipment.
- Electrical connection: Confirm that the strap or fixing arrangement provides the required connection to the vessel's bonding or cathodic-protection system.
Do not select the anode from its approximate weight, vessel brand or general shape alone.
Which Anode Alloy Should I Choose?
- Zinc: A conventional selection for salt-water operation.
- Aluminium: Generally selected for salt or brackish water and lower in mass than the equivalent zinc casting.
- Magnesium: Generally selected for fresh water and normally unsuitable for prolonged salt-water operation because it may be consumed too quickly.
Use the alloy specified by the vessel, equipment or cathodic-protection-system manufacturer. Water salinity, connected metals, existing anodes and stray-current conditions can affect the correct selection.
Matching Neoprene Pads
- GUA271E: Corresponding neoprene pad for the 00271E-size pattern.
- GUA272E: Corresponding neoprene pad for the 00272E-size pattern.
- GUA273E: Corresponding neoprene pad for the 00273E-size pattern.
The pad should be selected separately where required by the hull material, painting system or original installation design. Do not assume that a pad is included unless the individual product offer specifically states this.
Installation and Maintenance
Remove the old anode and clean the intended fixing and electrical-contact surfaces. Fit the replacement using suitable serviceable fasteners and the vessel or equipment manufacturer's installation procedure. The installation must provide the electrical continuity required by the vessel's cathodic-protection design.
Do not paint the sacrificial casting or any electrical-contact surface. Inspect the anode during scheduled servicing and replace it when substantially consumed, damaged or loose. Unusually rapid or uneven consumption can indicate poor bonding, incorrect alloy selection or stray-current activity.
Alloy Standards and Manufacture
Tecnoseal manufactures zinc, aluminium and magnesium sacrificial anodes at its foundry in Grosseto, Tuscany. Alloy composition is checked using spectrometric measurements.
- Zinc alloy: US Mil Spec A-18001K
- Aluminium alloy: US Mil Spec A24779 SH
- Magnesium alloy: US Mil Spec A21412 SH
Tecnoseal states that its sacrificial anodes are designed and manufactured in accordance with the chemical composition specified by the relevant US military alloy standard.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Are the 00272E and 00273E sizes interchangeable? No. Although both use 230mm fixing centres and 19mm × 30mm slots, their casting dimensions and weights differ.
- Does a matching vessel brand guarantee compatibility? No. Confirm the body dimensions, fixing centres, slot dimensions and available installation clearance.
- Can I replace a zinc version with aluminium or magnesium? Only where the alternative alloy is suitable for the operating water and compatible with the vessel's complete cathodic-protection system.
- Are the neoprene pads included? The pads have separate Tecnoseal part numbers. Check the individual product offer before ordering.
- Can the anode be painted? No. Paint can prevent the sacrificial material from functioning correctly and can interfere with electrical continuity.
