Tecnoseal 00630 Series Hanging Mooring Anode Kit

Tecnoseal 00630 Series suspended sacrificial anodes are hanging marine anodes supplied with a 6-metre cable for connection to a vessel's designated bonding or cathodic-protection system. The combined listing includes the 00630 zinc, 00631 aluminium and 00632 magnesium versions. Select the alloy required for the operating water and vessel system; the three variants perform the same general function but are not physically identical.

What Is This Suspended Anode Used For?

A suspended anode is lowered into the water beside a stationary vessel and connected electrically to the metalwork or bonding system it is intended to protect. Once correctly connected and immersed, the sacrificial alloy is consumed in preference to electrically connected underwater metals.

The anode must have a reliable electrical connection to the protected system. Simply lowering it into the water without connecting the cable to the correct bonding point will not provide the intended cathodic protection.

Suspended anodes are normally used as supplementary protection or where a vessel's approved cathodic-protection arrangement specifically calls for an over-side anode. They should not automatically be treated as a replacement for correctly sized fixed hull, shaft, propeller, rudder or drive anodes.

Which Anode Alloy Should I Choose?

• Zinc – 00630: A conventional selection for salt-water operation where zinc is specified.
• Aluminium – 00631: Generally selected for salt or brackish water.
• Magnesium – 00632: Generally selected for fresh water and normally unsuitable for prolonged salt-water use because it can be consumed too quickly.

How Do I Confirm the Correct Variant?

Confirm the following before ordering or deploying the anode:

• Operating water: Salt, brackish or fresh water.
• Required alloy: Follow the vessel or cathodic-protection-system specification.
• Bonding point: Identify the approved electrical connection point for the cable.
• Cable reach: Confirm that the 6-metre cable reaches the intended deployment position without tension.
• Installation position: The anode must remain fully immersed and clear of propellers, thrusters, drives, intakes and moving equipment.
• Existing anode system: Keep the suspended anode compatible with the vessel's fixed sacrificial-anode arrangement.
• Electrical continuity: Confirm a clean and reliable connection between the cable and protected metalwork.

Do not select solely by anode weight. The three alloys have different densities and the models use different casting dimensions.

Installation and Use

Connect the cable to the vessel's designated bonding or cathodic-protection point using the connection method specified for the vessel. The attachment point must provide reliable electrical continuity and must not be insulated by paint, corrosion, dirt or an unsuitable coating.

Lower the anode into the water so the complete sacrificial casting is immersed. Position it where it will not strike the hull, lie on the seabed, foul mooring lines or enter the operating area of the propeller, rudder, thruster, water intake or sterndrive.

Secure and route the cable to prevent chafing, crushing or accidental disconnection. Do not use a damaged cable or terminal.

Retrieve the anode before the vessel gets underway unless the vessel's approved installation specifically permits deployment while moving.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the casting, cable, cable-to-anode joint and vessel connection regularly. Replace or service the product where the sacrificial casting is substantially consumed, consumption is heavily uneven, the casting is damaged, the cable is chafed or the electrical connection cannot be confirmed.

Unexpectedly fast consumption can indicate an unsuitable alloy, stray-current activity, bonding faults or a larger cathodic-protection problem. Do not simply install a larger anode without investigating the cause.
