Tecnoseal 00351-2-BAL Bolt-On Pear Hull Anode with Strap — Aluminium is a streamlined bolt-on hull anode with an integral mounting strap. The live variant uses aluminium and is intended for a hull or transom installation whose fixing centres, strap and body dimensions match the selected Tecnoseal part number.

What Is This Pear Anode Used For?

The pear-shaped sacrificial casting is mounted externally while the metal strap provides the mechanical fixing and electrical path to the vessel’s bonding arrangement. When correctly connected, the anode is consumed in preference to the protected underwater metalwork.

How Do I Select the Correct Variant?

Match the existing Tecnoseal part number wherever possible. Otherwise confirm the fixing-centre distance, anode body length, width and height, slot size and strap dimensions. Alloy density changes product weight substantially, so weight alone is not a reliable compatibility check across zinc, aluminium and magnesium versions.

Which Anode Alloy Should I Choose?

  • Aluminium: generally selected for salt or brackish water and offers lower mass than an equivalent zinc casting.

Use the alloy specified by the vessel, drive or equipment manufacturer and keep the choice consistent with the existing cathodic-protection system. Water salinity, connected metals and stray-current conditions can change the correct selection.

Installation and Maintenance

Remove the old anode and clean the strap fixings, bonding points and backing surface and electrical contact points to bare metal. Fit the replacement using serviceable fasteners and the equipment manufacturer’s tightening procedure. Do not paint the anode or its electrical contact surfaces.

Inspect the anode during scheduled servicing. Replace it when substantially consumed, damaged or loose, and check bonding continuity or possible stray-current faults where consumption is unusually fast or uneven.

Alloy Standards and Manufacture

Tecnoseal sacrificial anodes are manufactured in Grosseto, Tuscany. Alloy batches are checked using spectrometric analysis and produced to the applicable current US-MIL alloy specifications used by Tecnoseal for zinc, aluminium and magnesium marine anodes.

  • Should the anode body be painted? No. Keep the sacrificial casting exposed to the water and preserve the intended electrical connection through the strap.
