Tecnoseal Volvo Penta 290 DuoProp anode kits are complete two-piece sacrificial-anode sets for compatible Volvo Penta 290 DuoProp sterndrives. Each selected alloy kit contains one 00704BIS-series drive ring and one 00708-series transom-shield anode, with fixing hardware included. Zinc, aluminium and magnesium options are available for different operating-water requirements.

Which Drive Is This Kit For?

This kit is for compatible Volvo Penta 290 DuoProp installations using a 00704BIS-pattern ring anode around the lower drive or propeller-shaft area and a 00708-pattern bar anode on the transom shield.

It is not the correct kit for a single-prop 290/SP drive, which uses the different 00703-series lower-gear collar. It is also not the Plus/C configuration because it does not include the two additional 00717 triangular plate anodes.

How Is This Kit Different from the 290-C Plus Kit?

The standard KITVOLVODP290 configuration contains one drive ring anode and one transom-shield anode.

The KITVOLVODP290-C Plus configuration contains those two components plus two 00717-series triangular plate anodes.

Select this standard kit where only the ring and transom-shield positions require replacement. Select the Plus/C kit where the drive also uses the two triangular plates.

Which Anode Alloy Should I Choose?

• Zinc: For salt-water operation where zinc is specified or where the corresponding aluminium kit is not being used.
• Aluminium: Volvo Penta's recommended alloy for salt and brackish water.
• Magnesium: For fresh-water operation only. Magnesium should not be used in salt or brackish water because it can produce overprotection and very rapid anode consumption.

Use the alloy specified by Volvo Penta, the vessel manufacturer or the existing cathodic-protection design. Keep the selected alloy consistent with the vessel's other anodes unless qualified technical guidance specifies otherwise.

How Do I Confirm Compatibility?

• Confirm that the drive is a DuoProp, not a single-prop 290/SP drive.
• Check that the existing ring matches the 00704BIS pattern.
• Check that the transom-shield anode matches the 00708 pattern.
• Confirm that the installation does not require the two additional 00717 triangular plates.
• Select the alloy required for the operating water and existing cathodic-protection system.
• Inspect the anode seats, fixing threads and surrounding drive components for modifications or damage.

Do not select the kit solely from the boat manufacturer, engine horsepower or the general description “Volvo 290”.

Installation and Maintenance

Remove the existing ring and transom-shield anodes. Clean each mounting face, fixing point and required electrical-contact surface to clean bare metal.

Fit both replacement anodes using the included hardware and the Volvo Penta installation and tightening procedure. Confirm that each anode is secure and has direct electrical continuity with the drive component it protects.

Do not paint the sacrificial castings or their contact faces. Inspect them during scheduled servicing and replace them when approximately half of the original sacrificial material has been consumed, or earlier where an anode is cracked, loose or unevenly eroded.

Tecnoseal manufactures its zinc, aluminium and magnesium sacrificial anodes at its foundry in Grosseto, Tuscany. Alloy composition is checked using scheduled spectrometric measurements:
