Description
Description
The Ultraflex L14 / 4-L14 Control Cable Clamp and Shim Kit secures the outer casing of one compatible C2, C8, MACHZero or universal 33C / 3300-style engine control cable to a rigid support bracket. Holding the cable outer in position allows the moving inner cable to operate the engine's shift, throttle or other compatible control mechanism without the cable casing moving with it.
The kit contains the saddle clamp, cable shim and the nuts, bolts and washers required to retain the cable. It is a cable mounting kit only and does not include the control cable, support bracket, control lever or engine-side linkage fittings.

What Is the Ultraflex L14 Used For?
The L14 anchors the outer sheath of a compatible mechanical engine control cable to a mounting bracket.
A push-pull control cable contains:
- A stationary outer casing or conduit
- A moving inner cable or core
The L14 holds the stationary outer casing while allowing the cable's inner member to travel through its normal operating stroke.
The clamp can form part of a correctly specified:
- Gear-shift control installation
- Throttle-control installation
- Engine stop or choke-control installation
- Inboard engine control system
- Outboard engine control system
- Sterndrive control system
- Replacement 33C cable installation
- Custom mechanical push-pull control arrangement
What Is Included?
- 1 x control cable saddle clamp
- 1 x cable shim
- 2 x mounting bolts
- 2 x washers
- 2 x mounting nuts
A specialist supplier identifies the included bolts as M5 x 12mm.
Not included unless expressly stated:
- Engine control cable
- Remote control lever or control box
- Structural support bracket
- Engine-side cable adaptor
- Gearbox-side cable adaptor
- Clevis
- Ball joint
- Eye end
- Threaded cable terminal
- A second cable clamp
- Other installation-specific hardware
Which Control Cables Are Compatible?
- Ultraflex C2
- Ultraflex C8
- Ultraflex MACHZero
- Compatible universal 33C / 3300-style control cables
- Compatible Dometic / SeaStar 33C cables, subject to dimensional verification
Before ordering, confirm the cable manufacturer, model, outer-casing diameter, mounting-ferrule dimensions and required shim fit.
How Do the Clamp and Shim Work?
The saddle clamp fits over the cable's outer casing or mounting section. The shim sits between the cable and clamp to provide the correct supported fit.
Together, the components are designed to:
- Secure the cable outer to a mounting bracket
- Prevent the outer casing from moving during operation
- Maintain alignment with the control linkage
- Avoid excessive crushing of the cable sheath
- Allow the cable inner to move through its normal stroke
The fitted clamp must be secure. The reference to cable movement does not mean that the mounting nuts should remain loose.
What Does the Shim Do?
- Matches the clamp to the cable diameter
- Distributes clamping pressure
- Helps prevent cable-casing deformation
- Limits unwanted movement of the cable outer
- Supports correct cable alignment
Does the L14 Connect the Cable to the Engine?
No. The L14 secures the stationary cable outer casing to a support bracket.
It does not connect the moving cable end to the engine throttle lever, gear-shift linkage, gearbox selector or remote-control mechanism. A separate clevis, ball joint, eye end, threaded adaptor or engine-specific connection kit may be required.
Does the 10-32 UNF Cable Thread Attach to the L14?
No. Compatible 33C-style cables commonly use 10-32 UNF threaded terminal ends, but the L14 clamps the stationary cable outer rather than the moving terminal thread.
What Are the L14 Dimensions?
- Overall length: 39mm
- Overall width: 13mm
- Overall height: 12mm
- Clamp internal diameter: 10mm
- Suitable cable outer diameter: Approximately 7-9mm
- Fixing-hole diameter: 5mm
- Fixing-hole centres: 26mm
- Supplied bolt size: M5 x 12mm
These dimensions are supplier-published and should be checked against the physical product where exact fit is critical.
Does the L14 Hold One or Two Control Cables?
The L14 holds one control cable. Separate shift and throttle cables may require one clamp for each cable.
Is the Support Bracket Included?
No. The L14 must be attached to a rigid support bracket with compatible mounting holes. The support bracket is supplied separately unless expressly included with another control or mounting assembly.
Can the L14 Be Used with Steering Cables?
No. The L14 is intended for engine control cables and should not be used as a mechanical steering cable clamp or hydraulic hose support.

- Confirm the 26mm fixing-hole centres
- Confirm that the M5 hardware suits the support bracket
- Mount the clamp to a rigid support
- Position the cable in correct alignment with the control linkage
- Avoid forcing the cable sideways
- Do not crush or deform the cable casing
- Tighten both fasteners evenly
- Secure the nuts against loosening
- Maintain the cable manufacturer's minimum bend radius
- Keep the cable away from heat, sharp edges and moving machinery
- Confirm that the cable inner moves freely after clamping
- Operate the control through its complete range
- Confirm correct gear selection and throttle return where applicable
- Inspect the clamp and support bracket regularly
- Replace bent, cracked, loose or excessively corroded components
- Do not operate the control system if the cable binds
Engine shift and throttle controls are safety-critical systems. Installation should be completed according to the current Ultraflex, engine and control instructions by a competent marine technician.
