Description

The WAVE Venturer Inflatable Canoe is a high-pressure drop-stitch canoe available as a compact two-person package or a larger version with three wooden bench seats for two adults and one child. Both models have a maximum combined load of 190 kg and are supplied as portable canoe packages for recreational paddling, day trips and sheltered-water exploration.

High-pressure drop-stitch construction is used through the floor and side walls to produce a firmer, more responsive hull than a conventional low-pressure inflatable. Wooden bench seats provide an elevated canoe-style paddling position, while two removable fins assist straight-line tracking in deeper water. Once deflated, the canoe, seats and accessories pack into the supplied transport backpack.

What Is the WAVE Venturer Used For?

The Venturer is designed for recreational and touring paddling on suitable sheltered waterways. Its combination of portable inflatable construction, raised bench seating and cargo space makes it suitable for:

  • Sheltered lakes and reservoirs
  • Canals and inland waterways
  • Calm or gently flowing rivers
  • Suitable sheltered estuaries
  • Recreational day trips
  • Family paddling
  • Solo paddling with camping or fishing equipment
  • Longer trips where compact transport and storage are important

The WAVE manual specifies sheltered-water use and states that the canoe is not intended for white-water rafting or other extreme sports.

Which Size Should I Choose?

Choose the model according to passenger capacity, required internal space and transport weight.

  • 48278 – Two Person: Measures 422 × 72 × 42 cm and is supplied with two wooden bench seats. It can be used by two paddlers or by one paddler carrying additional equipment.
  • 48280 – Two Adults + One Child: Measures 470 × 75 × 50 cm and is supplied with three wooden bench seats. It provides additional length and internal space for a family group or for two paddlers carrying expedition equipment.

Both versions have a published maximum load of 190 kg. This limit includes all paddlers, clothing, food, water and equipment carried in the canoe.

What Is Included?

  • One WAVE Venturer inflatable canoe in the selected size
  • Two or three wooden bench seats, according to the selected variant
  • Paddle package for the selected canoe
  • Two quick-release tracking fins
  • Dual-action or hand inflation pump
  • Premium transport and storage backpack
  • Factory-fitted air valves, drain valves, handles, D-rings and bungee storage

What Is Not Included?

  • Buoyancy aids or personal flotation devices
  • Water bottle
  • Paddling clothing or footwear
  • Dry bags or waterproof luggage
  • First-aid and rescue equipment
  • Vehicle roof-rack or tie-down equipment
  • Additional bench seats or paddles beyond those supplied with the selected package

A correctly fitted buoyancy aid or personal flotation device should be worn whenever the canoe is used.

How Does the Drop-Stitch Construction Affect Performance?

The floor and side walls contain drop-stitch fibres that hold the opposing surfaces together when the chambers are inflated. This allows the Venturer to operate at up to 15 PSI and creates a comparatively stiff hull.

The firmer structure is designed to:

  • Reduce flex or sag through the centre of the canoe
  • Improve stability under passenger and equipment loads
  • Support more efficient forward paddling
  • Maintain a consistent hull profile
  • Provide a more responsive feel than a conventional low-pressure inflatable
  • Allow the canoe to be deflated and packed into a transport bag after use

Construction and Design

  • High-pressure drop-stitch floor
  • High-pressure drop-stitch side walls
  • Three separate inflatable chambers
  • Heavy-duty PVC exterior
  • Wooden raised bench seats
  • EVA foam deck areas
  • Front and rear bungee storage
  • Front and rear transport handles
  • Side D-ring attachment points
  • Paddle holders
  • Drain valves
  • Splash guards
  • Two removable quick-release fins
  • Three inflation valves for the floor and side chambers

How Do the Removable Fins Work?

The two removable fins improve directional tracking in deeper water.

  • Install the fins before fully inflating the canoe.
  • Position the curved edge of each fin towards the stern.
  • Insert the locking pin after sliding the fin into position.
  • Do not use the full-size fins in shallow water where they may strike the bottom.
  • Remove both fins before deflating and folding the canoe.

The fins assist tracking but do not replace correct paddle technique or route planning.

How Do I Set Up the WAVE Venturer?

  1. Unroll the canoe on a clean surface free from stones, glass or sharp objects.
  2. Inspect the hull, seams, valves and accessories.
  3. Install the removable fins before the canoe is fully inflated.
  4. Inflate the two side chambers first.
  5. Inflate the floor chamber after the side chambers.
  6. Inflate each chamber to the pressure shown on the canoe and in the manual.
  7. Do not exceed 15 PSI.
  8. Close all valve caps securely.
  9. Fit the wooden bench seats to their designated attachment points.
  10. Secure the paddles, baggage and loose equipment before launching.
  11. Confirm that the canoe is correctly inflated and shows no signs of leakage.

What Inflation Pressure Should I Use?

  • Side chambers: Maximum 15 PSI / 1.04 bar
  • Floor chamber: Maximum 15 PSI / 1.04 bar

Use the supplied pump or another suitable pump with an accurate pressure gauge. Do not exceed the stated pressure and do not use an unregulated high-pressure compressor.

Air pressure changes with temperature. Pressure may fall in cold conditions and rise when the canoe is left in direct sunlight or hot weather. Check the pressure during use and release air where necessary to prevent over-pressurisation.

Is the Venturer Suitable for Beginners?

WAVE classifies the Venturer as an entry-level canoe for gentle paddling. However, users should obtain suitable instruction in paddling technique, water safety and first aid before use.

  • Begin on calm, sheltered water.
  • Paddle with an experienced person.
  • Avoid strong winds, fast currents and exposed water.
  • Practise entering, exiting, steering and recovering the canoe.
  • Learn how passenger movement affects stability.
  • Carry suitable first-aid and rescue equipment.
  • Wear an approved buoyancy aid.

Safety and Use

  • Check weather, wind, current, tide and local water conditions.
  • Inspect the hull, seams, valves, seats, paddles and fins before use.
  • Wear a correctly fitted buoyancy aid or personal flotation device.
  • Tell someone the planned route and expected return time.
  • Keep within the 190 kg maximum combined load.
  • Distribute passengers and equipment evenly.
  • Secure loose equipment so it cannot obstruct entry or exit.
  • Do not paddle while affected by alcohol or drugs.
  • Do not use the canoe in dangerous weather.
  • Do not use it for white-water rafting or extreme sports.
  • Do not smoke in the canoe.
  • Do not tow the canoe from a vehicle.
  • Never leave the canoe unattended in or beside the water.

The canoe is not a life-saving device and must be used within the paddlers' ability, training and prevailing conditions.

Care and Maintenance

  • Rinse the canoe with fresh water after use in salt, dirty or chlorinated water.
  • Clean it using mild soap and water.
  • Remove sand and gravel from the hull and between the chambers.
  • Allow the canoe, seats and accessories to dry completely.
  • Inspect the hull, seams, valves and fittings for wear or leakage.
  • Remove the fins before folding.
  • Open the floor and side-chamber valves.
  • Fold the sides towards the centre.
  • Roll from the end opposite the valves so remaining air can escape.
  • Store the canoe in its bag in a clean, dry location.
  • Protect it from extreme heat, freezing temperatures and prolonged sunlight.
  • Do not use the transport handles as vehicle tie-down points.
